The BC Titans climbed back to a .500 record this afternoon with a big 132-101 win over the visiting Central Oregon Hotshots. The Titans, 6-7 coming into the game were led by Josh Washington who dropped 30 points including a very nice 8/13 from beyond the arc.
The second quarter had the teams trading baskets and stops throughout the entire period. The Titans pulled out to a small five point lead after three minutes of play only to see Oregon come storming back to a five point lead of their own with just under four minutes to go. The middle of the second was highlight by two monster slams by Lawrence Blackledge as point guard Randy Nohr threw up two beautiful alley-oop passes. At the end of the half the Titans, led by Washington’s 22 1st half points and big man Wayne Marshall’s eight rebounds, led by two 55-53.
Oregon and BC started the second the way they ended the first trading baskets and stops until just past the midway point of the third when Lawrence Blackledge took over. With Oregon taking away Washington’s deadly shot, the big man teamed up with Marshall to own the paint as the Titans moved inside. Bringing an extra body into the paint allowed BC to starting kicking it out and as Washington had done in the first quarter, Chad Troyer, who finished up with 25 points, continued nailing threes in the third as BC would pull out to an 11 point lead before ending the third up by nine.
The small Oregon bench ultimately would be the difference in the game as BC continued to force the pace and bang inside. The Hotshots, with only three extra bodies could not keep pace and the Titans pulled away in the fourth the close this one in a blowout, 132-101.
BC would finish the game shooting 49% including 39% from beyond the arc while the Hotshots finished at 42%. The difference was off the bench where the Titans scored 57 points compared to Oregon’s 24. Blackledge, Marshall and another newcomer to the Titans, Galen Young, previously of the NBA’s Celtics and Phoenix Suns, had double-doubles for the Titans while player of the game for Oregon, Desi Crisp had a nice double-double of his own with 20 points and 10 boards.
Next up for the Titans is trip to Vancouver Washington to play one of the top teams in the league on Friday and then they host Oregon again next Sunday June 6th, at 3:00pm at the Langley Event Centre.
More information about the BC Titans can be found on their homepage at www.bctitans.ca. I will be putting up a set of photos in my 2010 BC Titans folder. I added a few of the Titans highlights on my Youtube account just to change things up a little bit. My video work is not quite ready for primetime but I thought I would share it anyways.
