Chilliwack FC tops Coquitlam Metro Ford 3-0 in Premier Women’s PCSL Soccer

May 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

The Pacific Coast Soccer League’s Women’s Premier Division took to the turf Saturday afternoon at the Charles Best facility in Coquitlam. The host team, the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Xtreme, was hitting the pitch for just the second time this year, with a 0-1 record, while their guests, the Chilliwack FC made the trip in from the Valley for their fifth contest, sporting a 2-2 record.

Early in the game the teams played an even match with Chilliwack having a few outside shots while Metro-Ford was earning corners. An injury to a Metro-Ford mid-fielder midway through the first seemed to change the flow as the Xtreme could no longer get the ball deep and Chilliwack started to make more frequent runs until about the 30th minute, when Chilliwack striker, Ellen Kuyer scored off a breakaway down the side which resulted in a shot from just outside the penalty area. The shot eluded the charging Xtreme keeper had hit the far side of the net. Chilliwack would maintain the pressure on Metro-Ford for the rest of the first half and the whistle for the break was a welcome one for the Xtreme defenders.

The second half began with Metro-ford, carrying no bench players for this game making some positioning changes, notably moving Ari Adams off the back line into the mid-field. While it did result in more sustained pressure by the Xtreme in the second half, it also opened up the back end and Chilliwack took advantage about 15 minutes in when Kuyer scored her second of the match. The Extreme earned a penalty midway through the second but the Chilliwack keeper was up to the task as she dove low to her right to make the save and then gather up the rebound. Chilliwack’s Danika Snook would score another goal late in the game while Coquitlam could not find the answers Saturday as they fell 3-0 to the visitors.

Chilliwack now sitting tied for 3rd with the North Shore team, have an extended break before their next game on June 19th while Coquitlam on the other hand play three games in the next week, beginning with a match against the TSS Academy Tuesday night in Vancouver.
